War

War

The two World Wars caused changes to Sherwood Forest. There was a greater need for timber and coal as well as space to house and train soldiers.

New buildings were also constructed during the War and immediately after it. Some of the changes to land use remained after the War but some land was returned to its original use. Clues have been left behind that can tell us what happened in the landscape between 1939 and 1945.
